4-aco-dmt is often sold in capsule form by certain manufacturers, more infrequently in vials.

Synthetic  are the most prevalent nowadays, although the use of these substances is still limited.

this is commonly as a fumarate salt-containing on average 1 mg of pure 4-AcO-DMT per 1,24 mg of powder (4-AcO-DMT). Or, if it is hydrochloride salt, on average, for every 1.15 mg of powder, it will contain 1 mg of pure salt. In fact, the distinction can be marginal, but it’s worth knowing.

Effects Of 4-Aco-Dmt 

Surprisingly, the effects of the molecule are close to those of magic mushrooms, such as the psilocybe genus. That adage is descriptive of this very thing. The average duration of the trip is about 3 to 6 hours, depending on the dose and the patient.

4-AcO-DMT was discovered in the 1960s by Albert Hofmann , during research for the pharmaceutical company Sandoz 

However, it remained virtually unknown until a study by David Nichols of Purdue University identified it as a potential prodrug of psilocin  It is now considered an NPS , and the number of consumers is increasing ; it would even be one of the most consumed NPS in the world in 2016 

Legal status

In 2017 , 4-AcO-DMT is not specifically considered illegal in almost any official text, with the exception of certain American states such as Florida or Texas  . However, in some countries (notably the United Kingdom and Italy ), its possession is illegal because it is an ester of DMT , listed on the international table of psychotropic substances

4-AcO-DMT is a derivative of DMT , in position 4 of which the hydrogen atom is substituted by an acetoxy   .
It has the condensed structural formula H ₃ C-COO-C ₈ H ₅ N-(CH ₂ ) ₂ -N(CH ₃ ) ₂ .

Synthesis 

First way of synthesis (1963) 

The synthesis proposed by Albert Hofmann upon its discovery involves the use of psilocin (which is structurally very close to 4-AcO-DMT) in the form of the sodium salt . It is then a question of reacting the molecule with acetyl chloride.

Second way of synthesis (1999) 

During his study of 4-AcO-DMT, David Nichols proposed a new way to synthesize the molecule.
His method involves the hydrogenation of palladium on charcoal , sodium acetate , benzene , acetic anhydride and 4-benzyloxy-DMT , a synthesis of which he also described ³ .

Stability 

Over time, 4-AcO-DMT degrades to psilocin 

Pharmacology

Since 4-AcO-DMT is a prodrug of psilocin  , its pharmacological effects are very similar to those of psilocin. However, no study concerning the pharmacological effects of 4-AcO-DMT (and in particular the possible effects of 4-AcO-DMT on the body before its metabolism into psilocin) has yet been carried out in 2017 .

The effects of 4-AcO-DMT are very similar to those of psilocin and psilocybin , the latter molecule (contained in hallucinogenic mushrooms ) also being a prodrug of psilocin.

Since 4-AcO-DMT is an NPS , its long-term health consequences are not yet known and no studies have yet been conducted on its pharmacological action or its toxicity .

Private use

4-AcO-DMT users are generally interested in self-discovery , spiritual fulfillment , but also in their own pleasure . They also note the virtual non-existence of addictive behaviors . The addictive potential of this molecule is much lower than that of most NPS , but also lower than that noted with other hallucinogenic NPS such as 25I-NBOMe ⁶ . The molecule has an important cross – tolerance , taking several consecutive days therefore greatly reduces the effects.

No overdose cases involving 4-AcO-DMT were reported in 2017.
